In the heart of the historic triangle Medemblik-Enkhuizen-Hoorn lies Wervershoof, a rural yet dynamic community of 8.500 inhabitants on the waterfront of the IJsselmeer.
Communal Wervershoof consists of the Westfrisian villages Onderdijk, Zwaagdijk-Oost and, between these two villages, Wervershoof-centre. The town is more densely populated than Onderdijk and Zwaagdijk-Oost (it has 5.500 inhabitants) and here you will find town hall, shopping facilities and other amenities. Wervershoof historically thrived on its community spirit and a straightforward mentality of hard working farming families. Not much was taken for granted ever and fighting the elements has shaped characters and mentality here. This resulted in an abundance of social and recreational facilities. The indigenous ‘Wervershover” may not always show it, but he will put his village first and foremost and is inherently proud of it.
Thriving on modern economics Wervershoof may be a relatively small municipality, smaller than Hoorn or Enkhuizen, but it certainly nurtures ambitions. Agricultural entrepreneurs have always taken on new products and modern technologies are now used to their advantage. The luring carrots in Wervershoof’s coat of arms have been there since the 14th century and still stand for tantalizing challenges brought about by technology, logistics, service, research and development in agribusiness. The ambitions are felt and characterized by the pulsing life of the Agri Business Centre (ABC) in Wervershoof.
Location Wervershoof also offers an ideal location for production facilities. There are efficient connections by road to the rest of Holland. Its infrastructure is constantly being improved. The city of Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport are only 45 minutes away, Lelystad 30 minutes and Leeuwarden, all the way up north, just 60 minutes.
Living in Wervershoof The advantages of a superb location, well-organized public transport and state-of-the-art communication facilities that Holland as a whole boasts are the reason that most people in Wervershoof have no urge to leave. Rather more the opposite is the case: a steady influx of people is coming from other parts of the province. Broadening recreational facilities and increasing housing locations are our answers. Living here in the relative quiet of West-Friesland is addictive it seems.
Public transport The grid of public transport in the area is essentially based on bus lines and a railstation nearby, with Wervershoof right in the middle of it. From nearby Hoogkarspel, the train brings you to Amsterdam, Schiphol and further.
Natural environment, recreation Hospitable Wervershoof also welcomes you from the water at the shore of the IJsselmeer. Ecological care and development go hand in hand with recreational amenities and housing. The authentic wooden mill in the centre of the village is characteristic and worth a visit in summer. Sailing and other water sports, visiting the historical sights in Medemblik, Hoorn and Enkhuizen are favourite with scores of tourists from all over the world.
